New Amsterdam in the 19th-century

  • 1 - main hook is new enough
  • 2 - long enough
  • 3 - other linked article, New Amsterdam, Guyana is subpar, needs direct references, many clarifications and citations needed; this needs to be solved before this article can be (and should be) linked, by the nominator and/or main author of this DYK. No pass for now. Tisquesusa (talk) 23:27, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
It may be sub-par but I don't think there is any rule that linked articles must be improved by the nominator. It's enough work getting one right. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:34, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
Pinging @Tisquesusa: for comment. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:03, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
I would second that, unless it's in bold I don't think there are any required standards for links. If anything it's a good thing because it will hopefully draw more eyes to a subpar article. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 15:23, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
There is a difference between an article with just a minor issue or one without any references, as in this case. The DYK hook will appear on the Main Page, that is filled with Featured Articles and other good content. People will not only click the bolded link, but also the other ones and then right from the Main Page they come to an article, proudly presented in the DYK hook, that is far below what it should be. Comments as "that is not said in ze rules" and "this (short) article was already so much work" only show laziness and disrespect for the reader of the DYK at Main Page. Ask for help at the Guyana WikiProject if you think resolving some issues is "too much work". Tisquesusa (talk) 21:44, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
@Tisquesusa: You may assess how lazy and disrespectful I am by consulting my user and talk pages. As you clearly feel very strongly about it, what is stopping you from expanding New Amsterdam? Philafrenzy (talk) 00:25, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
Can I also suggest:
or a similar variation. Maybe you deliberately chose a non-stamp-related blurb, but it's pretty interesting! Ivar the Boneful (talk) 15:31, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks Ivar. I agree but the stamp is already running at Thomas Ridpath. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:17, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
New reviewer required please to finish. Ivar? Philafrenzy (talk) 00:28, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
  • This article is new enough and long enough. The image is in the public domain, the hook facts are cited inline, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. Either hook could be used, the stamp one being more interesting. A QPQ has been done. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:24, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
